I've tried this place three times...in hopes that maybe it's just my palette that's different... all three times their food was just not edible to me due to overseasoning of some sort (either it was too sour or too salty or too spicy)
The service attitude is okay.
(I don't want to ruin a business by giving them one star because I know it's difficult to have a family owned business... but also, damn.)
The atmosphere is a bit off as well... there is a strong trash odor immediately before you enter the establishment, and then it becomes faint and lingering once you're inside. Another observation I made was that the soda machine was dripping as well, which required a cup to sit underneath the spout to catch it, but that's neither here nor there, because I'm sure soda machines, or rather machines in general-tend to malfunction every so often.
To my prior experience, the food takes about an average of 20+ minutes for a platter type dish. I waited about 10 minutes for my kebab this time, which was a reasonable wait time.
The food: honestly bad. I have never gone more than 5 bites. I thought maybe it's because I have a particular palette, but the food here tends to be too sour or too salty, or overseasoned in some way, and the quality of the meat is questionable as well. In particular, I ordered the chicken kebab with garlic and herb flavoring today and received this mushy, spongy chicken kebab that was too sour and the meat was just honestly very questionable. I have attached the pictures of it as well.
Please just do yourself a favor and pick a different spot.
Edit* changed to 3 stars because owner replied, I didn't call or anything but I am editing based off their response, which most likely I did receive the vegan version as they said, which was just an honest mistake on their part.
I wish I could give this place 5 stars but I’ve never been so disappointed. This was my first time going here and I was pretty excited (I’ll be honest I had high expectations). The service was alright. Me and my friend waited around 25 minutes for our food to be served and it was definitely not worth the wait, the food portions are very small and I felt scammed to pay $20. I was also looking forward to try their sauces but the caps were so dirty I didn’t want to take any risks. I’d recommend you to save your money and go somewhere else.
I was in the city and craved for peri peri. An instagram page gave me the idea to try them out, esp coz they serve halal meat. Boy I was in for a shocker.
The last two reviews are dead right and there’s nothing good about this place AND food. Age old meat which was chewy, burnt cauliflower, dirty restroom with no soap. I ended up not eating my meal and complained to the waiter.
Abdul was apologetic and offered another meal, but I wasn’t crazy to try anything else their. NYC Health Department should investigate them!
Was on a trip to the city and decided to stop at Frangos Peri Peri for a bite to eat with my family and friends. Atmosphere is pretty good, it’s not too bright inside and a fairly relaxing environment.
Now let’s get to the more negative things: The food I ate as well as the service. Service wasn’t terrible, just somewhat hard to understand the waiter there but he did his job nonetheless.
As for the food I got the chicken bites with the extra hot sauce and I was SEVERELY disappointed. The sauce was extremely tarty but not super spicy like it said on the menu, the entire meal was basically a sodium bomb. Any “spice” was compensated with loads of salt on my dish and it made it near inedible. The soda was also not working and it was flat for the few flavors that worked. If you come here, make sure to AVOID Extra Spicy, it’s not true hotness and just a sodium-powered flavor bomb. Hopefully their other menu items are better but my experience wasn’t very good.
Calm small spot with seating for about 20 people and good music. The place was empty when I can with one woman working. I ordered 10 piece wings for $19, half mild and half mango lime. The decoration and paint inside is very cozy
We had hummus, half a chicken and a burger. This was definitely the best chicken, I've ever had. The chicken was grilled and topped with a very delicious sauce. All dishes were spiced "mild". Very fair prices.
OMG, the service was phenomenal. I will be back just for that lol. But the food! The food was so good. And I had bone in chicken which some places don’t do well. The meat was nice and tender. But the sauces totally stole the show. The garlic and herb sauce is my favorite. Others tried the spicy stuff and it really kicked lol but I can’t comment too much on that because I don’t want a painful mouth while I’m eating lol some people like it though. Anyway, the portions were great, lots of sides to choose from and they had a lot of veggie options for sides which were so flavorful and good like the cauliflower side. They also have virgin pina colada which is good that I can partake in the look of drinking without having to lol. They also have sandwiches and salads. It’s just real good. I really like it here and will be going back again. I didn’t get to take a lot of pictures because we kind of devoured everything before I realized I should take some 😩😂😂.
Sulaiman/Sulliman thanks for your recommendations, wouldn't have been the best final night in NY if it wasn't for what you told us.
This was something new to me, peri peri was definitely something I've wanted to try and Nandos has never been a thing near me so I am comparing this to burgers I've eaten around places.
I got here a bit late at night but they were happy to accommodate us and really pulled through when they gave recommendations that were to die for. A friend got what I called the Sulliman special which was fries with dark chicken and a whole lot of sauce, I got the Sunset Sandwich with the Peri Peri fries, another friend got the Beef burger with mashed potatoes, and finally brother got a Halloumi Sandwich.
Where do I even begin, straight honest I want to share a picture of me having eaten half through the burger and showing off the chunks of meat but maybe that's not the best idea.
They took a whole leg and thigh and dipped it in the mango n' lime peri peri sauce I choose and fire grilled that, it was stripped of meat and slammed straight onto the bun. The smells coming through those doors was making the wait ohh so harder. The bun could have been slightly better but the brioche was good, kept the cheese and chicken in as best as it could.
The chunks of meat, dark meat is the tastiest, it had picked up so much of the sauces flavor that you tasted it when it broke apart in your mouth. The nice chunky parts could easily be chucked into your mouth or what I did was left it on the fries and tossed it together with the 6 OTHER SAUCES! you can bet yourself I took like 4 of the sauces and mixed them together in the fries and fallen chicken and forked my way through that!
Having lived in places where it's hard to find good family owned restaurants it brings absolute joy to my soul that a buisness such as this is doing good especially during such covid times.
Expand to Massachusetts if yall ever get a chance. We could use Peru Peri or any other Halal options you guys can bring.
This will be going on my favorites list, will definitely come back again.
For appetizers I'd personally recommend the Peri peri fries or mashed potatoes as I've seen it and the serving sizes are good, I gave half my fries to my brother who kept eyeing them and still had enough.
Definitely recommend choosing one of the bottom three sauces with a combination of one of the top three sauces for whatever item you get as the top 3 are spice while the bottom 3 are flavors with maybe just a touch. Honestly just go for any 2 bottom sauces and try your heat levels when they bring over all 6 sauces for you to plop onto your food like hot sauce. Definitely a hearty meal.
